Spring Pool Glass Aesthetic Exhibition — Craft, Life, Culture, and the Circular Economy
Exhibition Period|2019/09/01~09/25
Glass was once one of Hsinchu’s most iconic foundational industries. Having dedicated nearly sixty years to this heritage, Spring Pool Glass has remained unyielding in its commitment to mastering every single piece, successfully breathing new life into the glassblowing tradition. Beyond recycling waste glass into exquisite, colorful raw materials, Spring Pool continuously pioneers green, eco-friendly energy solutions across its factory operations. Driven by a profound love and care for their native soil—from material selection and production processes to the aesthetic charm and functional utility of studio glass art—Spring Pool strives to cycle finite resources back into infinite, sustainable materials. Their goal is to seamlessly weave glass into public life, carving out a unique and localized cultural identity. Building on this foundational lineage, second-generation leader T.A. Wu launched the "W Spring Pool Project." Anchored by the core ideals of a "circular economy" and "environmental symbiosis," this initiative intersections glass craftsmanship, modern design, social issues, and material science. It explores the beautiful tension and co-existence between "recycling" and "reinvention." By utilizing 100% recycled glass materials and engaging in cross-disciplinary collaborations with leading creative talents, the project seeks a meaningful, endless cycle of renewal through the acts of destruction and creation. Sublime craftsmanship, eco-friendly materials, modern design philosophies, and the steadfast spirit of the shokunin (artisan)—these elements harmonize perfectly to shape each stunning masterpiece within the W Project. In this remade glass, there is no trace of the weathered look of refuse. Instead, one finds crisp silhouettes and delicate textures forged entirely by artisanal dedication. Yet, within this refinement, the glass completely steers clear of the conservative ruts that traditional crafts often fall into, radiating the fresh innovation of modern design. Furthermore, this innovation avoids the hollow traps of pure formalism—breaking boundaries simply for the sake of breaking them—and instead honors the fundamental craft essence of practical utility. Featuring a curation of magnificent glass art alongside Spring Pool’s historical timeline and intimate, behind-the-scenes photography of master artisans at work, this gallery condenses decades of industrial brilliance. By beautifully blending tradition with innovation, the exhibition details the birth, survival, and rebirth of a classic heritage trade, boldly broadcasting Spring Pool Glass's unwavering resolve to chart a sustainable new future.
