Brilliant Canvases, Re-emerging Elegance — Joint Exhibition of Wang Szu-chia, Cheng Hsiu-ling, and Kuo Shu-hua
Exhibition Period|2020/12/13~12/31
This exhibition brings together the distinctive works of Wang Szu-chia, Cheng Hsiu-ling, and Kuo Shu-hua, three dedicated students of Yang Yong-fu, President of the Oil Painting Association of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Thanks to their mentor's rigorous training in visual observation, foundational canvas techniques, and a deeply ingrained habit of outdoor plein air sketching, these three painters have built an exceptional portfolio over more than a decade of study. Along this journey, their technical craftsmanship has grown increasingly refined, allowing each artist to carve out her own unique aesthetic style. Looking at their recent works, Wang Szu-chia's absolute devotion to grayscale tones shines through, highlighting her delicate ability to masterfully layer vibrant colors beneath a dominant gray palette. In Kuo Shu-hua's paintings, one can witness a remarkably steady and confident brushstroke, coupled with a deep, warm compassion for humanistic landscapes. Meanwhile, Cheng Hsiu-ling draws profound inspiration from local heritage and nativist themes; as a professional floral designer, her canvas compositions are beautifully influenced by the art of flower arrangement, rendered in soft, elegant, and serene colors. The legendary French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir once observed, "The pain passes, but the beauty remains." Through this showcase, these three female artists not only aim to manifest their individual aesthetic philosophies and mark a definitive milestone in their creative careers, but also hope to offer a sanctuary of comfort and spiritual peace through art amidst a world weathered by global anxieties.
