The Yi-You Creative Art Association 2021 Exhibition

Exhibition Period|2021/04/08~04/26

The Yi-You Creative Art Association (shortened to the "Yi-You Art Association") was founded in 1999 by the late Professor Ku Bing-shing, who was then the Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). The collective began with just five founding members: Professor Ku, Professor Cheng Yi-hsiang, Mr. Ho Chih-chiang, Mr. Lien Fu-hsing, and Mr. Chang Shih-pu. Over the years, the association has grown significantly, drawing in numerous new members consisting primarily of retired professors and faculty members from NTNU and other esteemed academic institutions. On average, the association hosts a collective exhibition once a year. Following their inaugural exhibition at the NTNU Arts Center in 2000, they have showcased their work annually across famous university galleries and public and private art institutions both at home and abroad. For this 2021 iteration, the association brings its annual showcase to the Chi-Ching Galleries at the Taipei Tech Arts and Culture Center. The defining core of the Yi-You Art Association lies in its philosophy: to look beyond the mere exchange of Eastern and Western cultures and actively cross into entirely different disciplines. This year’s exhibition features 57 exquisite works by 26 artists, spanning ink painting, watercolor, oil painting, calligraphy, and mixed media. Because the members come from highly diverse backgrounds—including architecture, technology, music, crafts, theater, and digital media—their works pulse with a rich cross-pollination of industries and creative friction, beautifully reflecting the diverse and progressive artistic vision of the association. The pieces on display are wonderfully colorful, seamlessly weaving tradition with innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Every work highlights the artists' tireless dedication to elevating their creative horizons. For instance, Dance of Life, a piece by founding president Ku Bing-shing, blends static and dynamic abstract techniques to showcase his signature geometric and diagrammatic style. Other standout works include Lien Fu-hsing’s mixed-media piece Spiritual Resonance (Qi-Yun), Su Zong-xiong’s oil painting Between Water and Clouds, Chen Zong-hu’s mixed-media creation The Awakening and Elevation of Consciousness, and Liang Hui-mei's Impressions of Spring. Together with every masterpiece in this gallery, they orchestrate the uniquely vibrant artistic spirit of the Yi-You Art Association.
