A Journey of the Soul: The Retrospective Exhibition of Su Zhen-kun

Exhibition Period|2020/08/25~09/23

Su Zhen-kun graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied directly under legendary masters including Huang Jun-bi, Pu Xin-yu, Liao Ji-chun, Lin Yu-shan, and Chen Hui-kun. Following his graduation, he dedicated the major part of his life to teaching at National Tainan First Senior High School until his retirement. Concurrently, he founded the local "Green Field Art Studio," nurturing generation after generation of exceptional artistic talent. Su Zhen-kun was an incredibly versatile master, showing equal brilliance across watercolor, oil on canvas, and classical ink painting. Above all, he was a painter who deeply cherished his native soil. Tainan’s most iconic and historic landmarks—including Zhongshan Park, Anping Fort, the banks of the Tainan Canal, Chihkan Tower, the Confucius Temple, and Minsheng Green Park—frequently served as the muses for his canvas. Under his brush, Tainan’s ancient trees, flowing waters, and rich history come alive with striking vitality and truth. Viewing his creations is akin to taking a personal walking tour of Tainan; they capture scenes that could only be painted by someone who truly lived and breathed the city, laying bare his rustic, gentle, and warm personality. This special exhibition marks a retrospective commemoration on the 25th anniversary of his passing. Though Master Su Zhen-kun has departed this world, the masterpieces he left behind still gleam with the radiant glory of his life's work. They continue to broadcast his profound devotion to art, guiding viewers step-by-step into the beautiful, historic landscapes of his beloved Tainan, allowing us to feel his most intense and heartfelt love for this soil.
