Organized by the Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education, the Taiwan International Student Design Competition marks its milestone tenth anniversary this year. The 2017 cycle attracted entries from students representing 910 universities, colleges, and departments across 71 countries and regions worldwide. Amassing a staggering grand total of 18,932 submissions, the competition's submission volume has surpassed renowned international accolades such as the German iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award, solidifying its position as the world's largest international student design competition. Embracing "Opportunity" as this year's central theme, the competition challenges students to confront contemporary hurdles, seize critical moments, integrate diverse resources, and generate exceptional value—ultimately translating the core essence of "Opportunity" through the power of design. The competition is structured into four distinct categories: Product Design, Digital Animation, Visual Design, and Brand Specified. To evaluate this immense creative pool, a massive jury panel was assembled, comprising 22 preliminary judges and 27 final judges hailing from 17 different nations and territories. Following intensive deliberations among these elite design authorities, the committee selected the single winner of the prestigious Grand Prix, along with recipients of the International Design Organization Special Awards, Gold, Silver, and Bronze prizes, and Honorable Mentions for each category. In total, 68 accolades were awarded, distributing a generous prize pool of nearly NT$4.8 million. To maximize the impact of the international jury's visit to Taiwan, the organizers hosted the "International Design Masters Lecture Series" on October 7, 2017. Convening across three major national cultural hubs—the NTU Hospital International Convention Center in Taipei, the Taichung Cultural and Creative Industries Park, and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts—these seminars invited globally acclaimed designers to share their professional insights, offering local audiences a wealth of diverse cultural viewpoints and cutting-edge design philosophies.
