Exhibition Period|2018/09/05~10/07
Jointly organized by the China Song Ching Ling Foundation, the Dunhuang Academy, and the Shen Chuen-chi Cultural and Educational Foundation, this grand exhibition returns with immense anticipation. During its 2016–2017 tour across six Taiwanese universities under the title Treasures of the Silk Road, the project garnered widespread acclaim. Coupled with the stellar success of its sister initiative, Approaching Dunhuang: Youth Silk Road Expedition, the center received a flood of eager inquiries from faculty, students, and the public long before this year's opening. The 2018 iteration, "Visions of a Millennium: Dunhuang Cultural and Art Exhibition," introduces an even more dynamic, multi-dimensional array of exhibits. The curation features intricate fine art paintings, sculptures, replicas of ancient musical instruments and architectural models, multimedia films, and an immersive, full-scale reconstruction of classic cave interiors. The thematic scope sweeps across fine arts, religion, ritualistic music and dance, historical costumes, decorative motifs, ancient lifestyles, and cutting-edge artifact preservation and restoration—with all exhibits transported to Taiwan directly from the prestigious Dunhuang Academy collections. The gallery also showcases the travel logs and documentary records of 11 young Taiwanese scholars who journeyed to the Gobi Desert for the 2017 Approaching Dunhuang expedition, an addition sure to broaden the horizons of local students regarding the sweeping landscapes of the Northwest. Taipei Tech has the distinct honor of serving as the inaugural stop for this national tour. As Taiwan’s premier technological institution, Taipei Tech will host an Approaching Dunhuang student sharing session on opening day, Thursday, September 13. Furthermore, capitalizing on the university’s technological prowess, a specialized keynote seminar will be held. The center is privileged to welcome Yu Tian-xiu, Deputy Director of the Digitalization Institute of the Dunhuang Academy, to deliver a lecture titled "Preserving and Disseminating Artistic Treasures: The Present and Future of Dunhuang Caves Digitalization," designed to ignite rich new dialogues in cross-strait academic exchange.
