Liang Yung-Fei, Director of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, has devoted nearly four decades to the fields of education and arts administration, earning widespread recognition for his outstanding achievements and contributions. His commitment to promoting calligraphic aesthetics education closely aligns with the educational理念 of National Taipei University of Technology. In 2020, Director Liang specially collaborated with the university to organize the Liang Yung-Fei Calligraphy Art Exhibition, presenting dozens of selected works at the NTUT Arts Center.
Director Liang also generously donated one of his cherished works, Sunlight Illuminates the Forest — Couplet Adapted from Huairen’s Sacred Teaching Preface of the Tang Dynasty, a 60 × 60 cm semi-cursive script piece, as part of NTUT’s permanent collection to serve as a foundation for aesthetic education for future generations. His dedication to cultivating public appreciation for aesthetics is deeply admirable, and the university expressed its sincere gratitude and respect.
Since 2011, Liang Yung-Fei has continuously held solo touring exhibitions across cultural institutions and universities throughout Taiwan, steadfastly promoting the beauty of written language. For decades, he has maintained a disciplined creative routine, rising early each morning to create art. His works themselves reflect his personal character — qualities such as cherishing connections, practice, insight, and gratitude flow through the lines and colors of his art. His paintings are both poetic and Zen-like, naturally revealing the artist’s warmth, humility, simplicity, and inner tranquility.
The exhibited works demonstrate Liang’s deep understanding of both Eastern and Western artistic traditions. Beyond his public service career, his extensive reading of Chinese and foreign poetry, literature, masterpieces, and paintings formed the strong cultural foundation that fuels his innovative artistic energy. Combined with his enduring passion for creation, this has enabled him to develop a distinctive style within contemporary calligraphy, independent of established schools.
Liang’s modern calligraphy seeks transformation by integrating visual imagery into calligraphic expression, breaking away from traditional conventions while continuously pursuing innovation. Through his profound understanding of structural points, lines, and planes, he carefully constructs form, spirit, and rhythm within each work. Inspired by the philosophy that “one flower contains an entire world, one leaf reflects enlightenment,” his flowing lines and vibrant colors delicately intertwine, creating harmonious spiritual resonance that deeply moves the viewer’s heart.
