2024 Salut d’Amour — Solo Exhibition by Cheng Mei-Rong

Exhibition Period|2024/01/15~01/28

Cheng Mei-Rong’s solo exhibition Salut d’Amour was presented at the NTUT Arts Center, expressing the artist’s love conveyed to the world through painting. Cheng Mei-Rong studied oil painting under Lin Hsien-Tsung and later learned printmaking from Chung You-Hui and Kuo Jung-Hua. She has long been devoted to various forms of artistic creation. This exhibition features paintings of the human figure, landscapes, and flowers, carrying the essence of Impressionism while blending with the romantic style of Expressionism. Regarding her plein air paintings, Cheng Mei-Rong noted that all five senses experienced during the painting process influence her work, which is why her sketches are able to deeply capture the unique beauty of each moment. In recent years, her artistic style has become both minimalist and abstract, with flat visual compositions presenting a sense of movement. Her colors are simultaneously wild, soft, and sweet. These characteristics can be seen in her vibrant floral works, Female Landscape, which layers different poses of the model into a single composition, and Wedding Under Fire, inspired by the war in Ukraine, where semi-abstract concepts and spreading red pigments depict the contrast between celebration and conflict. In Xiaomei Garden, she employs automatism techniques, transforming freely stretched lines and imagination into a painted inner garden. Finally, the exhibition’s title work, Salut d’Amour, is inspired by Monet’s gardens. The artist likens the composition to the female body and intentionally leaves parts unfinished, allowing the work to convey a sense of immediacy and movement during the exhibition. Through these paintings, she hopes viewers can feel surrounded by the energy of love.
