This exhibition presents the artistic journey of Huang Yung-Ho, reflecting over four decades of dedicated practice. Working across both oil painting and ink, Huang navigates fluidly between figuration and abstraction, revealing a profound sensitivity to inner perception and the nature of existence. His oil paintings are characterized by thick impasto layers combined with repeated scraping and reworking. Through this process of accumulation and erasure, the surface becomes a dynamic field where destruction and creation coexist, embodying a raw and immediate vitality.
In contrast, his ink works expand beyond traditional conventions, incorporating collage-like approaches and material experimentation. Through tearing, layering, and recomposition, Huang constructs a contemporary visual language rooted in, yet not confined by, Eastern aesthetics.Rather than focusing on singular subjects, Huang’s work explores a state of “freedom in all forms”—a return to essence beyond representation. Animals, figures, landscapes, and memories intertwine, forming an open and fluid visual experience.
“I create art; God created me.” This statement reflects the core philosophy of his lifelong practice—an ongoing dialogue between the inner self and the ever-changing world.
