Mountain Shadows and Fleeting Time: Tales of NTUT from a Century Ago

Picture description

If time could turn back, what would you want to see?

During the 2025 Anniversary Celebration, a video titled "A Birthday Wish from a Century Ago" touched the hearts of many. The footage—precious dynamic records of 1930s Taipei Industrial School (now Taipei Tech) baseball games, scenes by the swimming pool, and teachers and students admiring snow on Mt. Datun—was not a special effect. It was a real, living moment in time.

These images were captured by 千々岩 助太郎 Chijiiwa Suketarō, the principal at the time, who was also a pioneering giant in the research of Taiwan’s indigenous architecture and an avid mountaineer.

This time, we are doing more than just watching a film; we are diving deep into the stories behind the lens. We have invited the guardians and researchers of these historical film reels, directors Huang Pang-Chuan and Lin Chun-Ni, to the Arts & Cultural Center, Taipei Tech. Through their nuanced perspectives, they will deconstruct the unpublished details within the reels and untangle the century-old bonds between teachers, students, and campus memories.

Join us for a Saturday afternoon filled with historical warmth. We sincerely invite lovers of documentary film, history, and culture to "read" this love letter sent from a hundred years ago.
